Hello, I am Natalie, the editor of Science Magazine. Goldilocks has the swine flu so I am taking over for this article. Yesterday, at 2:22 pm Goldilocks was wandering through the woods to find a house that bears live in. When she came upon a tiny little house, she saw a sign saying The Bears. Goldilocks knew that this was the right house.
When she came to their door she knocked and knocked and no one answered. So, she walked right in. After all, this was for a scientific reason. When she walked in, she observed (something you can sense) three chairs. One was a chair with a cushion, one was a chair made out of wood and the last one was made out of metal. She then noticed those were the levels of IV. Levels are the the description of set up. Goldilocks inferred ( something you guess based on the observation) that the bears sat in the one with the cushion the most because it was most comforting. Goldilocks thought to herself, "The type of chair is the independent variable or something you change on purpose. I need to know this because otherwise I won't have anything to write. Also, I can determine whether the bears sit in the one with the cushion the most by the amount of time in the chair. The amount of time in chair is the DV or something you measure." For Goldilocks to measure this experiment she has to measure in minutes. "The units of measurement is how you measure." Goldilocks wanted to try out this experiment herself to determine whether it was true or not.
"For my experiment, I need to have constants or something that keeps the experiment fair. They would be same size chair otherwise it would be unfair. Also the person who does the experiment has to be the same." Goldilocks knew she was forgetting one thing but what? She looked in her notes and said, "Oh, I need a purpose. The purpose is the reason for even doing the experiment. Every experiment has to have a purpose. There is only one way to write a purpose. The purpose of this experiment is to determine the effect of the type of chair on time spent in chair." Just as she was about to sit in the cushion chair, the bear family came home from their picnic in the forest. What would she do? Little bear came upstairs first. "Who are you? What are you doing in our house?" Little bear screamed so loud that he made his parents come. When the bears came in, Goldilocks explained what was going on and who she was. Papa bear sighed. Momma bear said this would be a great chance to share science with their family. So the bears nodded in agreement to help Goldilocks with her experiment.
